Back to Life...

...Back to reality. Back to the here and now. Ah, a little musical interlude to start my life working again. I've been back to work for a few weeks now and I must say that, while it sucks in some ways, it's not all that bad.

Let's start with how it's not all that bad.

Well, the client is metro accessible, my house is metro accessible, so I walk to work and don't have to worry about traffic and parking. Though I do have to worry about crowded train cars and halitosis and pit smells. But that's not too bad.

Plus I'm coming in on the end of a VERY easy installation and all I have to do really is sit and do some simple documentation. Nothing fancy to gum up my day. It's a good way to ease back into my software. Also, it means I have fairly short work days, some of which can be from home. Not bad.

Now here's the reason I'm a little upset. It's not that busy, the client just canceled on us, I have a free flight anywhere in the world, and Kristen's leaving for Greece this week. This means...I could have gone with her!

Her parents invited me, meaning I have a free place to stay. I earned plenty of Virgin Atlantic miles, meaning I have a free trip over there. Combine these two and I'd have a 10-day vacation virtually free.

Now, I know what you're saying is something like, "suck it up, @sshole; you just got off of a 4-month vacation." Well, this is true, but I spent most of the four months working on my house. I'm not upset about that, just jealous about this.

Unfortunately my work feels differently AND it would be awkward to really push them on this. So, alas, she's off to Greece and I'm off to the metro. To the office. To the extreme I rock the mike like a vandal...
