Right? Wrong, Brandon! When will it bloody stop raining over here? Water makes up 70-75% of the body weight of most people, right? Well I think the Brits must be like 95% water. Maybe Great Britain is actually the lost city of Atlantis the it's inhabitants need all this rain to keep their gills wet. Come to think of it, you never really see a Brit wearing anything less than a collared shirt or turtleneck. Why is that if not to hide their gills, those fish bastards.
Anyway, yesterday didn't bring much new. Tons of work and not much play. I did, however, get massively dropped on my lunchtime run. The course was hilly, and muddy, and I just didn't have the power I normally have. I think I'm still a bit sick. Sometimes I feel like my head is going to pop, but my sinuses are fine, if even a little dry. I'm wondering what it could be. Last night I slept alright, but on previous nights the pressure is nearly unbearable, a cross somewhere between a headache and sinuses. One night I even resorted to aspirin and a hot bath at 2AM. But again, last night was fine so maybe I'm over the worst of it.
I picked up my package at the post office after work, too. This "post office" was a room literally less than 10' x 10' with a window going to the work area. So there are like 20 people in the queue winding around this tiny room trying to pick up their packages or mail something off. Odd. Anyway, my package had "The Chronicles of Narnia," the complete series, and "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." Both are hardcover, but the Narnia series is gorgeous. All the books are contained in one hardbound book, which comes in a protective sleeve. Quite nice. Actually it's quite a bit like the complete "Calvin and Hobbes" series I got awhile back, which is also beautiful. My library, once I get one, is going to rock. I can't wait to dive into these books.
Today I hope to finish work early and go home and relax, maybe (and you know I mean maybe) even stop off on the way home and get some groceries. While I don't mind eating Chinese every night, or going out, it certainly isn't the most healthy way to go through life, I don't care how many runs you go on to keep the weight down.
I'd also like to wrap up my New Year's plan this weekend and maybe make some headway on Prague, Venice, and Rome. Anyone out there have any advice on those three cities? Or any recommendations on other weekend getaways from England? I know, I know, I'm so lucky. Well, you're right. I am. And I plan on taking every advantage of it.
But even I'll only push my luck so far. You couldn't pay me enough to be a consultant in Iraq right now. Or any other war-torn country for that matter. No amount of hazard pay is going to get me to release my hold on my will to live. I'll stay here, safe and secure, and make less money thank you very much. I'm just saying this b/c we all keep reading about the kidnappings over there and how their increasing daily. Not a good sign. Don't get me wrong, I support our troops. I just don't support our "Commander in Chief" or the war itself. But we're stuck now, aren't we? And we'll probably be stuck long after Bush is gone, too. In response to the war in Iraq many countries have been forced to rethink their threat levels.
Finally, I'd like to draw attention to a rather serious matter in my opinion. Remember Marty McFly's sister? Or the Bosom Buddy's inside girl? Well she lost her battle with cancer recently. And that's sad. We lose too many good people to this disease. So I try to do everything I can to help fund the research for finding a cure, like supporting Lance Armstrong and his foundation. But my main focus is with Club 10-56, my American Cancer Society Relay for Life Team. The main event will be in June where our team will walk for 24 hours in support of raising awareness and finding a cure. So keep an eye out for many of our events, including wine parties, date auctions, special deals, and ... The Backyard Bash. Contact me for more information. Better yet, click here to make a donation in my name. I'll buy you a drink later and, more importantly, you'll be doing a great public service. Plus it's tax deductible.
