Based on the 1976 original, starring Walter Mathau, 2005's "Bad News Bears" is okay. Did you know that the original was also made into a short-lived T.V. series as well? Not surprisingly Billy Bob Thornton, as Morris Buttermaker, does a good job of playing a alcoholic. Who'd have guessed?
Basically the story revolves around a baseball team comprised entirely of 12 year-old misfits led by the biggest misfit of them all, and their "championship" season. It also stars Greg Kinnear playing Buttermaker's rival, Roy Bullock. "It looks like you're smuggling grapes." That was funny.
Okay, this is going to be short. This is another one of those average movies that Hollywood spews out in hopes to bring in some money. It's grittier than the original, but in the end I think the original was better. So if you have to choose, choose the original. But if you have to watch this one, it won't kill you. Just don't expect to be one up on the Oscars this year.
