I'm going to keep this short: you should see "Thirteen Conversations About One Thing," starring, among others, Matthew McConaughey, John Turturro, and Alan Arkin. All deliver good performances in a story that gets you thinking on so many levels.
It's about, well, thirteen conversations about one thing. And what is that one thing? Well, it's the age old question: what makes people happy? All of these people are LOOKING for happiness. They KNOW it exists, because they see it in so many other people. Hell, some of them even think they have the answer. But then fate steps in and shows them how quickly all that can change. I think in the end, life isn't about finding happiness; it's about being happy whlie finding something else. Happiness in the journey, not the destination. And I'm thinking that's what all of these people are going to find out, without ever knowing each others' name. That's what makes this story more interesting: the fact that, though all of them have never met, their lives are all intertwined.
This would be a good movie to see with your SO, or maybe a group of friends that you wouldn't mind having a deeper conversation with. Save it for people that are deeper than a puddle. It really gets you thinking, both about the movie and maybe even about your own life. Hell, trying to figure out the order of the scenes alone would be worth watching the movie. You may need to watch it more than once for that. I didn't get it the first pass through. But basically, if you're looking for something that is at the opposite end of the pool from "Batman Begins" when it comes to dinner conversation, pick this one up. Hell, I'd even consider buying it.
