2 Weeks

Well, 2 weeks to go until Philly, and I'm having a bit of trouble focusing. I haven't run since last week's Marine Corps Marathon. Now that's not necessarily a bad thing, considering it was a recovery week anyway. Plus there's not much I can do in the last 3 weeks before the marathon to really bump up my chances anyway. I really do need to motivate this week, though, because it's the last of my speed runs, and they should help "get me in the mood."

Part of the problem is burnout. Part of it is preferring to spend my time working on photography. And part of it is re-adjusting to being in England. But you want to know what I think the main part of it is? It's this damn English weather combined with this infernal darkness. I'm in the "cold and rainy" season apparently, and it's going to last the rest of my time here. Plus it will only get worse I'm told. Now, look at a map. Follow England, London in particular, from it's latitude line around to North America. See that? We all, including me, tend to think of England as being directly east of us. While they are east, they are also well north of us (on par with Quebec), making their days much much shorter, and their nights much much longer. It doesn't get light until 7AM around here, and gets dark around 4:30PM. That, too, is only going to get worse. Bottom line: it's not easy to motivate for a run that's going to be 6 miles, in the dark, in the cold, and in the rain. I believe we've already read what happens on those days.

Regardless, I'm going to do my best to motivate, if only to get out of the flat. Tonight I've got a comedy show to go to, and tomorrow night I'm playing a bit of football. But don't worry about that; I'm in goal so my chances of getting injured are less. I've also got to start planning my "party" for the Monday following the marathon. I've got to keep it small, so I really need to think about how to do the invite. If you read this, and would like to come, let me know. It's the least I can do for those that tune in to this damn thing. Take Care.
