Where I Grew Up

Ever wonder where I grew up? Ever wonder what kind of school would get embroiled in the Intelligent Design controversy? Or be parodied in The Onion? Well, guess what? That's me! Good old Dover, Pennslyvania. Gotta love it.

This battle is not new. Creationists have been battling Evolutionists for decades. Darwin's theory had to fight to gain acceptance back in 1925 at the "Scopes Monkey Trial." And now it's being taught in our schools. So why not this? I'm guessing it really comes down to whether or not Intelligent Design is a scientific theory or just the Creationists way of slipping religion back into our schools. What do you think?

Personally, I couldn't care less if it's taught or not. Children need to form their own opinions of the world. I've always believed that it's possible to create a "Science/Religion" view. Who's to say that God didn't create the Big Bang and set evolution in motion all those years ago? As long as it's not an either/or sort of decision, and we're not forcing either opinion down the childrens' throats, then so what? I mean, that's really all both of these things are: opinions. You can choose to believe them or not. And, parents, if you're so concerned about what your children are being taught in school, perhap you need to take a more active role in their education so that they can form some opinions of their own, biased not by you, or the schools.

Here are some articles on the controversy:
